Tot School Tuesday - Fish and more!

What fun we had kicking off our Living Water study!  This month we will be learning all about different bodies of water and the creatures that live in them.

Bible Story of the Week: Jonah 1-3

Field Trip: Pequest Fish Hatchery
I was slightly disappointed in this trip because we were not allowed into the nursery building where you could actually see the fish eggs and the fish at different weeks of life, but we were able to see the fish that were ready for stocking.

Stomping in puddles was perhaps the best part!
We also went for a short walk along the Pequest River.  The river was very high and parts of the trail were flooded (all of it was muddy), so we did not get too far.

Science: We collected toad eggs from my parents pond

 From Eggs to Tadpoles

Craft: Stickers
We used these for several purposes: signing, colors, counting

Math: Fishbowls
I drew up some fishbowls and "M" put the appropriate number of fish in each bowl.

"Red Fish, Red Fish, What do you See?"
My sister had given me several die-cuts of sea animals, and so I used them for a  spin off of "Brown Bear".  I had a set of each sea animal and "M" had a set laid out on the table in front of her.  I would start with the red fish and shuffle the rest of the animals.  Then, for example, I would say "Red fish, red fish, what do you see?  I see a blue dolphin smiling at me." Then "M" would find her blue dolphin and put it in the shoe box (our sea).  I would continue with this until we had gone through all of the animals. Sometimes when we played this I would sign the color and the animal rather than say it out loud.

Ice Fishing
I got this idea from the March 2011 Family Fun Magazine.  We used a piece of yarn as our fishing pole and salt as the bait to catch ice cubes (the fish).  We learned that salt melts the ice and had a lot of fun "fishing".

Pre-Writing Practice
We practiced drawing lines between two sea animals.
