Georgia Gem - Little Pallapoosa Park

We were looking for a campground close to Atlanta (but not in Atlanta) for an overnight stay and stumbled upon Little Tallapoosa Park in Carrollton, GA. It is one of four Carroll County Parks, and definitely a Georgia Gem. We will be returning to this park in the future!

I called the night before and were able to get a reservation. She knew we were just staying for one night so she suggested we stay on Site 6, which was a pull through site for easy in/out. The site is one of the most level sites we have ever stayed on and it has full hookups. For $30 a night it is an extremely nice campground. The park is family friendly and didn’t make any comments or charge extra when we said there would be 7 children. The camp hosts were friendly and greeted us as we pulled in to give us a map of the park. We did sign an agreement to abide by the park rules and regulations (which were your standard quiet hours, campfires must be in ring and attended, no alcohol in public area, pets must be leashes, etc.).

Because set up was so quick, were able to get out and explore a bit before sunset. The park has 2.5 miles of paved trails and 7 miles of natural trails that leave right from the campground. It had rained heavily for two days (it has just let up as we pulled in), so we avoided the soggy natural trails and stuck to the paved trails. The trail led us down to and along the Little Tallapoosa River and past a small pond.

We then took a little detour to check out the splash pad. We decided it would be awesome to come back sometime between Memorial Day and Labor Day when the splash pad is open. Looks like loads of fun! There are pavilions around the splash pad that can be rented for $60 a day and a swing set. The swings were flooded but the kids had the most joyous time kicking their feet in the large puddle as they swung. Since we had full hookups and I knew they would be needing showers anyway, I let them splash til their little hearts content. They said, “best day of the whole year!” Granted, it was New Year’s Day, lol. The sound of laughter and children playing is a wonderful way to start the year!

Site 6 and 8 are still probably the best sites for an overnight stay. Sites 5, 7, 9, and 10 are pull thru’s reservable only for Motorhomes longer than 38 feet. If we were to return for a weekend or longer stay, our top choice of sites would be 12, 14, and 16. They are back in sites but have some more room for the children to play and back up to the woods.
