Tot School Tuesday: Birds

Our overall theme for the next few weeks is Garden, but we are starting with Birds and then moving onto Bugs before we get into Plants.

BIBLE VERSES:
"And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”  So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good." ~Genesis 1:20-21

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" ~Matthew 6:25-26

CRAFT: Painting a Birdhouse

BUILDING A BIRD'S NEST
We went on a nature hunt in our yard to try to find things that a bird could make a nest out of.  We started from a Brown Paper Bag (idea from Family Fun Magazine) and then glued sticks, leaves, grass, etc. to it to make a bird's nest.  We started with Elmer's glue which worked for the grass and leaves, but not so well for the sticks, so I used a hot glue gun to help.

PAINTING WITH BIRD FEATHERS

This was Boo's first time painting!  She was not interested in using the feather, but did move her hands around in the paint a bit (until she put her fingers in her mouth!).

SEASHELL BIRDS
(idea from Parenting Magazine)
We used a large, flat shell for the body, feathers for the wings, a cut piece of orange styrofoam for the beak, and sticks for the legs.

SENSORY TUB:
Right now the only thing in the tub is Moon Dough and some plastic frogs, lizards, snakes, and spiders.  "M" loves the moon dough!

I would hide critters inside the moon dough and "M" would find them - so much fun!

PRINTABLES:

HANDPRINT DOVES
Trace your hands with your fingers together and your thumb pointing out, glue on a beak, and color in.

TRANSFERRING WATER WITH A SPONGE
This is a classic Montessori activity.  Using a sponge "M" transferred water from one bowl to another.
